Llanishen Reservoir

American owned company, Western Power Distribution (WPD) plans to build 326 homes on the site of Llanishen Reservoir in North Cardiff. It has been closed to the public since New Year's Day because
of what WPD described as “the need for inspection work”.

Cardiff Friends of the Earth believes that Llanishen Reservoir should become a country park. The reservoirs are a much-loved beauty spot. They are also sanctuary for wildlife and a public
recreation area that should be preserved for the enjoyment of the whole community.

The discovery of 29 species of waxcap fungi at the Llanishen Reservoir site has led to it being designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) by the Countryside Council of Wales.

The neighbouring Lisvane Reservoir is a SSSI for its wintering wildfowl. The embankments of both reservoirs are a separate SSSI for their internationally important diversity of grassland fungi.
