Sustrans has won £50 million of funding from the Big Lottery Fund for the Connect2 project to invest in walking and cycling UK-wide. This includes the 140 meter Ely River Bridge, Pont Y Werin. This
really is a great achievement and we couldn’t have done it without your votes.

Work on delivering Connect2 will start in January 2008. Their local authority partners will be adding matched funding from their own transport and other budgets to the £50 million from the Big
Lottery Fund. This is a five year project, and they have already identified nearly £100 million of local authority funding to support Connect2.

The bridge would allow pedestrians and cyclists to cross between Penarth at Cogan and the International Sports Village at Cardiff Bay. It would also link up to a future cycle route through to Barry
and the Vale of Glamorgan.
