Cardiff Friends of the Earth are urging retailers in Cardiff to ban plastic bags. The group has targeted the arcades in Cardiff with questionnaires to both retailers and the public on the topic.
- 13 billion plastic bags are issued in the UK each year.
- This is an average of 300 per adult per year
- 88% of shoppers put their shopping into free plastic bags
- That is an average of 3-4 bags per trip
- 45 percent of shoppers have bought a ‘bag for life’, but only 12 percent use them.
