About us
Who are Cardiff Friends of the Earth?
We are a local group of Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Friends of the Earth is:
- the UK’s most influential national environmental campaigning organisation;
- the most extensive environmental network in the world, with almost one million supporters across five continents and over 60 national organisations worldwide;
- a unique network of campaigning local groups, working in over 200 communities throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland;
- dependent on individuals for over 90 per cent of its income.
Our aims
We want a world that meets everyone’s needs in a way that values our quality of life and safeguards the future of the environment. We campaign to stop the rapid exploitation of the Earth’s
resources that is polluting the planet and causing inequality between rich and poor. Rich countries cause most environmental damage, although they have a fraction of the world’s population. We want
to stop this exploitation and ensure that rich countries pay a fair price for what they use. From local, to national, to international, Friends of the Earth always works to put people and planet
first.
How we work
Friends of the Earth inspires solutions to environmental problems, which make life better for people.
We achieve our objectives in three ways:
- information and ideas – investing in research, so that we can provide people with the insight to help them make informed choices;
- citizen action – mobilising and inspiring people to become environmentally aware, so that they will be active citizens who support our agenda; and
- political campaigning – democratically pressuring and persuading key political and business decision-makers to act on our campaign priorities. This way we can bring about changes to legislation
and corporate policy.
