Jobs for March and April

  • Hoe the ground to get rid of any weeds.
  • Put in straw on paths to reduce the bogginess caused by rain.
  • Potatoes that you are chitting (allowing to sprout) should be going in the ground unless it is very cold. If so, hold back until it warms up a bit.
  • Aubergines and tomatoes can be started on a window sill at home.
  • Make successional sowings of japanese bunching onions, radishes, kohlrabi, early carrots and salad leaves.
  • Sow Butternut squashes under glass.
  • Finish pruning your soft fruits, apples and pears.
