The Big Ask in Merthyr Tydfil

1 February 2008

Three intrepid members of Cardiff Friends of the Earth braved cold weather and forecasts of snow to visit the Farmer's Market in Merthyr Tydfil. Luckily the snow didn't arrive and their resolve was
strengthened by hot drinks from the Fair Trade stall.

They asked members of the public to send cards to the local MP, Dai Havard, calling for him to support strong and effective action on Climate Change.

The Government's Climate Change Bill is going through Parliament, but we believe that it must be improved to be effective.

The National Assembly has recently given permission for a huge open-cast coal mine in Merthyr Tydfil. The coal would be used to generate electricity at the Aberthaw Power Station near Barry. The
Aberthaw Power Station is the most polluting power station in the UK.
