Cardiff Food Chain website launched

The UK Government's current farming policy:

  • subsidizes factory farms to the tune of £700 million a year
  • creates imports of animal feed from the other side of the world. This results in deforestation and contributes to climate change
  • lets the supermarkets squeeze small farmers and food sellers out of the market.

Friends of the Earth is calling for legislation to Fix the Food Chain. We believe that Government subsidies should support environmentally-friendly forms of farming, and we are campaigning for things to change.

This as an opportunity to link up with like-minded groups in Cardiff and Penarth who want to Fix the Food Chain. Many of these groups are already making the way we produce, distribute and consume food more sustainable.

During April 2010 Cardiff Friends of the Earth will hold a number of food-related events. This will include a political hustings where members of the public can grill the general election candidates on sustainability and food issues.
