Cardiff Friends of the Earth help fight climate change
Cardiff Friends of the Earth have held several stalls about climate change in the past year as part of The Big Ask Campaign. We asked them to send a card asking their MP to put climate change at the top of their agenda. “Members of the public are really enthusiastic about this” said campaigner Chris Brown. “It is an easy way for them to show the politicians they care about climate change.
Cardiff Friends of the Earth will continue to campaign on this issue until Parliament takes action and passes our Climate Change Bill.
Nuclear power isn’t the answer to climate change
The nuclear industry claims building more nuclear power stations it is the answer to climate change, but:
- Doubling the number of nuclear power stations would only reduce climate change emissions by 8 per cent.
- Nuclear power produces double the amount of climate change gas emissions than does wind power.
- Nuclear power uses small numbers of large power stations. The power generation methods are complex. A breakdown can last months. The distribution of large numbers of wind turbines across the country and simple, reliable machinery increases chances of power supply.
- Nuclear power costs more. Credible sources, such as government reviews, have always priced nuclear power higher than wind energy.
- Nuclear power produces nuclear waste. A problem they still haven’t solved.
