Energy-saving guide

Workman installing house cavity wall insulation

The Energy Saving Trust has published a guide showing how people can reduce their carbon emissions by 3 per cent a year and help to prevent climate change.

Things they recommend people do to reduce their carbon emissions are:

  • Turning heating down by 1 degree Celsius
  • Avoiding leaving appliances such as TVs on standby
  • Washing their clothes at 30 degrees Celsius
  • Switching off lights in rooms that are not occupied
  • Installing 100mm of insulation in lofts
  • Insulating external solid and cavity walls
  • Installing double or secondary glazing in windows and doors
  • Install energy efficient lightbulbs
  • Replacing inefficient boilers
  • Buy energy efficient electrical equipment
  • Reduce car journeys and drive in energy efficient ways
  • Avoid wasting food

It also shows the measures the Energy Saving Trust would like the Welsh Assembly and the UK Government to take to help save energy.
