Cardiff Against the Incinerator will hold a demonstration on Tuesday 12 October, People will gather at 10.30 am on the steps of the National Assembly Building in Cardiff Bay. The demonstration will be between 11 am and 1 pm.
We want the Welsh Assembly Government to call in the Environmental Permit decision and stop Viridor's plan. Please make an appointment to meet your AM at the protest.
The e-petition against the Cardiff incinerator now has over 350 signatures. Since its launch, the petition has gained an average of 15 supporters every day and stands to become the most popular open e-petition on the National Assembly's website. People from all over South Wales have signed it, from Monmouth to the Gower. The petition has notably gained the signature of Leanne Wood, AM for South Wales Central, whose office has contacted Cardiff Against the Incinerator offering support for the fight against incineration across Wales.
The Environment Agency has delayed its final decision on whether to grant an Environmental Permit for the huge, wasteful and polluting incinerator that Viridor Waste Management want to build in Splott. They want to get more information from the Local Health Board about the health impacts on the residents of Cardiff of the 350,000 tonnes of waste that would be burnt each year in the incinerator. The Environment Agency say that they will make an announcement of their decision the end of October.
The Cardiff Against the Incinerator coalition, of which Cardiff Friends of the Earth is a part, are attacking the incinerator from all angles. We are making the Environment Agency answer questions they've never had asked before, bringing them information they've never seen before, and what's more, exposing the gaps in Viridor's case for the incinerator.
It's astonishing to think that ordinary people, by giving their spare time and working together, are messing up the plans of a multi-billion-pound company.
The Wales Assembly Government Environment Minister, Jane Davidson, has so far refused to intervene in the Cardiff incinerator's environmental permitting process.
Please sign the petition against the incinerator to the National Assembly.
