Julie Morgan MP backs strong climate change action

9 February 2008

Friends of the Earth's The Big Ask campaign got a boost from Julie Morgan MP who showed her support for strong action on climate change
when she visited Ty Gwyrdd, the environmentally-friendly house at the Welsh History Museum, St Fagans.

Cardiff Friends of the Earth climate change campaigners gave her postcards, signed by her constituents from our stalls in Whitchurch,
calling for tough action to tackle climate change.

Mrs Morgan, the MP for Cardiff North, told members of Cardiff Friends of the Earth that she would vote in favour of improvements to the Government's Climate Change Bill when it reaches the House of
Commons.

She said she would vote for:

  • Strengthening the target for reducing carbon emissions from 60 percent to 80 percent by 2050.
  • Annual monitoring of progress towards the carbon emissions target.
  • The inclusion of the UK's share of international shipping and aviation in the target.

We are pleased that Julie supports our campaign to get the strongest and most effective climate change law possible. This shows the power of ordinary people to make politicians take action.
