How long have you been involved with Cardiff Friends of the Earth?
For about 18 years.
What do you do at Cardiff Friends of the Earth?
As the Waste Campaigner I spend most of my time working with a coalition of activists campaigning against the incinerators bidding for the Prosiect Gwyrdd contract. This includes building alliances, doing research, media work, and face-to-face persuasion. I have to deal with local councils, the Environment Agency and the Welsh Assembly Government.
I also update the Cardiff Friends of the Earth website and do some of the social media work for the group. I help out elsewhere when I can.
What do you think is the biggest challenge for the year?
Prosiect Gwyrdd will be selecting the winner of their procurement process. We have to persuade the politicians that incineration is bad financially and for the environment so they choose another technology, such as Mechanical Biological Treatment.
What’s your best green tip/advice?
Consider the environment before you buy things and think how you will dispose of them later. Try to put as little waste in your black bags as possible. Sort your recycling, green waste, and food waste properly. Look for ways to dispose of other unwanted items such as donating it using Cardiff Freecycle.
