The uncertainty over the future of the UK's solar feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme continues, after three court of appeal judges failed to decide if the government's proposed changes were unlawful.

The government has raised the spending cap feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme by nearly £200m to prevent the scheme exceeding its budget. It has done this by re-allocating funds previously earmarked for the Renewables Obligation (RO) scheme.

The government today filed a request to the Court of Appeal against a High Court ruling on 21 December that its plans to rush through cuts to solar feed-in tariffs (FIT) were unlawful.

The High Court has upheld a legal challenge from Friends of the Earth and two solar electricity firms, Solar Century and HomeSun, against the government's decision to slash feed-in tariff incentives for solar installations.

Facebook 'friends' renewable energy

Facebook has pledged to work with Greenpeace to source more renewable energy to power its giant data centres.

The social networking company announced yesterday that it will work with Greenpeace to increase the energy efficiency of its IT infrastructure, switch from coal to renewable energy where possible, and promote clean energy to its millions of users.

EDF Energy are expected to announce huge profits today as their energy bills soar.

They are one of the worst offenders for choking support for clean energy - calling for lower renewable energy targets whilst making mega bucks from nuclear.

EDF Energy has 20 percent of the UK energy market. In the UK EDF Energy owns seven nuclear power stations, two coal-fired power stations, and two gas-fired stations.
