New figures from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (Wrap) show a big improvement in the amount of food waste, but households are still throwing out £12 billion a year of usable food.

The deadly impacts of soya production

Intensive livestock production in the UK and Europe relies on the import of large quantities of high protein animal feed. This feed is mostly made from soya, which is now being grown on a massive scale in South America. This expansion of soya production results in rainforest destruction in Brazil and and many communities losing their land.

October - the nights are drawing in and the wetter weather (thank goodness) is limiting time at the plot but there is still plenty to be done.

Tidying up from the summer - dead tomato plants should be taken out, greenhouses cleaned down and the last of the fruits should be harvested.
