Fracking protest outside Barclays Bank Cardiff

Cardiff Friends of the Earth and Cardiff People and Planet on Saturday called on Barclays bank to stop funding fracking in the UK.

Local residents and campaigners protested outside Barclays bank, Working Street, Cardiff. This was part of a national week of action calling for Barclays to end their investments in fossil fuels.

Between 12pm and 4pm on 29 October Barclays Frackelicious Cocktail Bar will be open for business outside Barclays Bank, Working Street, Cardiff. It will serve a cocktail of fracking chemicals mixed with drinking water to members of the public.

The Government's own report found that even an indirect exposure to contaminated water from fracking could create health risks. Clean drinking water is a precious resource and essential to life. We must not risk polluting it.

Barclays own fracking company Third Energy, who want to frack in beautiful Ryedale, North Yorkshire. They want to drill up to 950 wells at 19 sites, each generating more than 900 HGV trips.

People in Yorkshire don’t want fracking: it puts their health and homes at huge risk and it goes against everything we need to do to stop climate change.

The Government is worried. Despite its strong promotion of fracking, local opposition just keeps on growing.

David Cameron has announced he's going "all out for shale", and is offering yet more money to councils as a sweetener to accept this dirty fossil fuel.
